Party X actually pays Party Y to lose the election, Why didn't people vote for Party Z?

Note entirely hypothetical, though this has happened more than once in various places, and with both major parties today in both respects.

Update:

Also note, 'Party X' did break the law, but the case was dismissed by Party X.

Update 2:

Good, but votes are being counted, Party Y legitimately lost the election on purpose.

If Party X can pay Party Y to lose, votes aren't being counted, so how would anyone ever know how many people voted for Z

I'm going to go with familiarity to parties x and y. Some will vote party Z, but many are to afraid of the unknown. That is purely a hypothesis, however.

I did not vote to party Z because I do not agree with them on policies that are important to me.

The variable is represented by the average moronic voter.
