System Of Equations! Help!?

-v+w=7

v+w=1

I don't get this..

    -v+w=7

    v+w=1

    Add the two equations

    2w = 8

    w = 4

    Substitute for w in either of the two original equations to find value of v

    -v + 4 = 7

    v = -3

    w=4 v=-3

    First you add the variables together, vs cancel, w+w=2w, 7+1=8

    Solve for 2w = 8 w=4 substitute 4 for w in any equation and solve for v
