I had my tooth out nearly 24 hours ago, yet its still bleeding is this normal?

Depends on how much. Moisten a tea bag and ite gently for 20 mins. And leave it alone, no smoking swishing, spitting or driking throuh a straw. If it doesn't improve call the dentist

I had this once, it's a bit scary. All the dental hospital did was give me a wad of gauze to bite on until a clot formed in the wound.

You need to put pressure on it so it will stop bleeding. Bleeding should usually stop an hour or 2 .

do you have any gauze pads given to you to take home ?
if it does not settle within an hour or so, give the dentist a call
