According to Donald Keyhoe in his book Aliens from Space (written in the 70's), this is the case. In the early 1950's UFO's, or flying saucers, were everyday news. Movies were being made about alien visitors, and there was serious discussions about anti gravity. The position of the Air Force was that at least some of the "foo fighters" and other sightings were alien craft. But starting in the mid 1950's the government began a systematic debunking of alien sightings, even while the Air Force policy was one of pursuit of these unidentified vessels, apparently in the hopes of shooting one down. He could not determine the reason for the debunking campaign from his various contacts, but the reason was believed to be public safety (think of the public panic that occurred during the 1939 fake radio Martian "invasion.").

There has been little to suggest Roswell involved the crash of an alien vessel. It was possibly a stunt to fake the Soviets into thinking we had our hands on advanced technology. I've not found anything supporting actual secret contact with aliens.

However strange craft had been sighted by numerous sources generally considered reliable, such as pilots, police, astronauts, and others. There is the famous depiction of a vessel-like UFO in a medieval painting, and sightings by Alexander the Great and Columbus (who was quite familiar with objects in the sky, for navigation purposes.) Some of the attempts to discredit these sightings are pretty laughable.

And visitation is a possible explanation for the Dyatlov Pass incident and other bizarre things like crop circles.

But fear is powerful. I understand that.

I suppose a lot of things are possible. It might be like we are the new Native Americans and the aliens are the new Europeans and they have already "sailed" here in their high technology crafts from distant lands and they have already contacted our leaders and out government, and they are going to kill us all. Who knows? Anything is possible I guess.

They're hiding a lot of things. When it comes to Area 51, there's no telling what's there.

I think it is possible yes. I'm laughing while I type this but I really do think it's possible.
