Where did you learn what a "healthy diet" is?

Most people in this forum seem to be young people, and I see one after another of you claiming you have a healthy diet because you don't eat fat or red meat, and instead you're shoveling down empty carbs and sugar all day long, and wondering why you're getting fat. In 20 years you'll be wondering why you're diabetic. You poor kids are so horribly misinformed. Why? Where do you learn what you think you know about a healthy diet? High school? College? Magazines? Facebook? Where are you learning this stuff?

I'm 32 and it bugs the crap out of me to see these kids talking about starving themselves or thinking that eating less than 1,200 calories a day is okay. They think they can exercise 5 days a week and still eat junk.

All of it is one big steaming pile of BULLCRAP.

I've learned to eat healthy by following Weight Watchers, reading health and fitness magazines, following bloggers on Facebook and their blogs, and a lot of trial and error. It's hard work but because of the things I've learned I rarely eat sugar anymore and I avoid empty carbs (though the occasional slice of pizza does happen).

Another thing that bothers me is all these young women who think they're heifers at 120 pounds and 5'6 or they're 5'4 and 110 pounds. I am 5'4 and 235 pounds and slowly losing it thanks to a mostly clean diet, Weight Watchers, and exercise. I've lost 42 already by being smart about my choices, not by eating crap.

My guess is these people are reading into the fads and believe the hype about losing weight. They haven't properly educated themselves and are likely too lazy to do the research on their own. It sucks but there's only so much you can do.

I'm 19. From what I can tell, it's magazines and rumors. You know, fad diets. And a lot of dummies just assume only eating fats will make you gain weight. If you have some knowledge of the human body you would know that carbs and sugar get converted to fat later on. That red meat is bad for you is not true. It's bad for you in large amounts, but so is everything, so I'm not sure about that one. Probably some dumb magazine somewhere. Also, I approve of your avatar.

i've seen a lot of young people here starving themselves thinking they're losing weight which is worse than just eating "unhealthy"

you're right on the most part but this is just your opinion and doesn't go for every young person.

as a 17 year old vegetarian, i think i eat pretty healthy.

I eat fruit, vegetables, proteins, and grains every day

I do most of my research on google and i like to read information that's highly detailed about what's healthy/ unhealthy instead of just a list of foods
