Strange keyboard issue - all keys switch to alternate function (or something like that)?

I've got an HP Pavilion g7, in good working condition.

The issue I'm having is this: occasionally while working in Firefox, all of my keyboard keys will switch to what I believe are alternate functions. For example, pressing one of the letter keys will bring down a menu, or a Windows Explorer 'Save File' box, or something like that.

(I don't know whether this is a Firefox-specific issue, but this is the only situation in which I've encountered it)

I believe that the most likely scenario is that, while typing, I've been unintentionally pressing a combination of keys that switches to a different 'mode' .... I'm just not sure what mode that might be.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks, all.

make sure sticky keys are disabled and the Fn/Alt/CTRL/Windows button aren't stuck. clicking the Windows button (a circle with the windows logo inside of it, between Fn and Alt) should revert it back. if not, it might be the one between Alt and Crtl that looks like a pointer is clicking on a specific thing.. if you click it with your browser open it'll show a regular menu (undo, cut, delete, paste, etc). that /might/ work.

if not, just restart your computer and keep trying. you somehow hit a button or a combination of buttons and enabled a feature. just remember that with restarting your computer, alot of times it'll revert right back to the shortcut keyboard a few minutes later.

sorry if this didn't help - i had this happen to me a while back and i forgot how to fix it. but i'm pretty sure it's one of the two buttons i mentioned! :) just mess around with it for a bit.

is the problem only in firefox? try using google chrome or Safari and see if it does it in any of those browsers. if it has the problem in those browsers then try updating the keyboard driver or software. if that does work troubleshoot the keyboard. if that doesn't work then try plugging in a different keyboard. if that doesn't work then take it to a computer repair store like staples officemax ETC.
