It isn't fattening, it is good for you. I have seen one slice of whole wheat bread having around 110 to 130 calories. People think that foods are "fattening" when the only thing that makes you fat is having excessive calories in your diet. Technically eating Twinkies and still keeping a caloric deficit would make you lose weight, although it would not be good for you at all.

Moral of the story? Eat more than you burn off each day, and you will have the extra calories stored as fat if you do not exercise. Eat less than you burn off each day, you will lose weight.

EDIT: Olive oil is excellent for you, and contains monounsaturated fat that speeds up the metabolism and promotes muscle growth and fat loss through increased testosterone production (fat is necesssary for the creation of testosterone). Again, this is not fattening. No foods are technically fattening, simply put. Food is "fattening" if you eat more of it than you burn off each day. That's it. Now, this doesn't mean you should go shovel down ice cream so long as you watch your calories...because that is not good for your health at all.

It's "fattening" because it's a starchy carbohydrate and is meant to give us energy. Now it doesn't have to be fattening when eaten within limits and with the right ingredients. For example if you eat it with cheese - fattening, if it's a natural peanut butter sandwich - balanced diet. Olive oil is very healthy and I don't see anything unhealthy about eating it with bread. It has omega-3 that helps loose weight actually.

In any case brown bread is energy and is "heavy" and more than 2 slices a day daily may put on some bulk. I personally also think that brown bread (any starchy carb) is "fattening" (which means "full of energy and important") and have 1-2 slices a day but not everyday.

Individual foods don't cause fat gain, your overall calorie intake causes fat gain. If calories in > calories out, fat gain. If calories in < calories out, fat loss. It honestly doesn't matter what you eat. No food is fattening in a caloric deficit, this has been proven countless times. Low carb diets are just a passing fad and are only advocated by people who don't understand nutrition.

As for calories in a slice of bread, it's usually around 100.

no food is fattening. Weight loss is calories in versus calories out.

bread is good carbs. Many people are stupid and think that carbs are bad.

it is all taught at school. Did you listen or just flick your hair?

Listen to Wisdom ^. I hate the term fattening, and he sums up what I had to say perfectly.

It says it on the packet (or at least gives you the ability to calculate it).
