Oversized baggage fee in Emirates?!?!?
Please help! Has anyone travelled to the US from India with the luggage dimensions that exceeds the stated allowance?? The total size of my check-in bags comes to 112 inches, while the allowance is only 107 inches. I called the office and they said I would be charged USD 175 for oversize. It's ridiculous!!! Can someone please answer?
I want to know if the fee of $175 is true because it's unbelievable. Is it too much to ask?

Answer what?!?!? Help with what?!?!? Emirates is a business, they move people and their belongings. They have established certain rules regarding luggage. If you violate those rules they will charge you accordingly. The charges are posted on their website. Either obey their rules or use another carrier. However they all have similar rules/charges.

These sizes and wrights are there for a reason, and if everyone fdecided it was ok to travel with an oversized case, the plane would never get off the ground!! It is purely because they do state these sizes and weights before hand, they have every right to charge you if you take something bigger and heavier......the heavier the plane, the more fuel is needed!! Thats where the money goes! And, yes, they do stick to the rules. It would be cheaper for you to go out and buy a smaller case and condense your luggage a little if you don't want to end up paying more!!
We frequently fly backwards and forwards between Cyprus and the U.K. and therefore have learned to just travel with hand-luggage......but if it is bigger or heavier than the allowance, the airline can charge £50!!!! Which is more than it costs to travel with a full sized suitcase!
So yes, they can and will charge if necessary, so just go out and buy a smaller case to avoid any hassle and embarrasment at the airport!
