The causes for nervousness are due to huge accumulation of impurities in the mind and imperfections in the body. It may be also due to ignorance, illegitimate desires or indulgence in unwanted pleasures, urges, impulses, emotions like envy pride, hatred, anger, fear, jealousy, lust greed, conceit, pride, temptations, etc. and bondage. These impurities and imperfections spoil our clarity of understanding, create disturbances in the mind and thus rob our tranquility, judgment and observation capacity, mental approach, etc. resulting in oscillation, distraction and distortions.
The restlessness in the mind gives nervousness to the body. It is because of the bad impressions that have gathered within us. These impressions, particularly those of an emotional one are of the nature of attachment and aversion and they cause for nervousness.
Actually the mind has the natural tendency to remain calm but the adverse forces within us make the mind move, oscillate and waver. The more the mind is purified, the more the mind becomes calm and in the calm mind, there is “knowledge” Calm mind is capable of being concentrated and knowledge grows faster through concentration of the mind.
