Carrier in Web Development vs Computer Networks?

I am confused about choosing my carrier between as a web developer or network engineer ??

Which of the above have more future and scope and will continue to grow ?

As others have indicated the web development area is not the place to be right now. It has become saturated with people and as a result there are few jobs and the ones that are around, pay poorly.

    Stick with Networking.

Another answerer has disputed what I have posted here and with all due respect to him I have to agree to disagree. My son does web work at the highest level of complexity while I do more Computing Security work so I know both sides of the IT street well. I would be the first to admit there are still web jobs out there and web programming can be very complex. The question asked here was where there would be growth and I just don't see that much in web work. We have fewer and fewer developers where I work and, if anything, web work is a big center of offshoring and outsourcing of the work. Touch labor like networking is more difficult to send to a third world country. Also, Computer Science majors and developers sometimes have a superior attitude that what they do is somehow superior and all the losers and dropouts who can't cut it in dev work end up in Networking, System Administration, etc. This is just not true - these are different disciplines and each has expertise that must be acquired and honed.

the other dudes are talking nonsense.

whilst it may be true that there are many web developers, there are many networking guys as well. lets put this in context for you, web development is bigger than just plain old html. and it aint just about creating a website that it customer facing on the net. there are many corporate systems powered by web developers. furthermore, to add to its broadness, you could focus on the graphical component, or build the logic of the site (backend)...furthermore you could just focus on security or focus on performance and optimization. I suspect that the saturation relates mainly to the design components.

many traditional desktop applications are becoming web oriented, that speaks to the future of web. so it aint going anywhere. any dick can put together a quite site, but if you come back with a site like yahoo answers, then you sir are a champion. so i wouldnt call any dick a web developer. plus, if you can program a website that is functional, chances are that you need to know a language like PHP or C#...if thats the case, i wouldnt necessarily call you a web developer...i would call you a developer...which furthers your scope of opportunities.

Networking is easier dude....even to acquire the qualification is easy. if you a lazy dude, thats where you go...be a help desk dude. but to solve real business needs, go for development.
