When does a survey have be carried out during the conveyancing process (UK)?

We have had an offer accepted on a house and now have a solicitor instructed and my mortgage application is almost complete. Can you tell me how and when the survey is required? Thank You.

As soon as your mortgage is approved the survey will be done. Ask your Solicitor to explain the process to you.

Hi your mortgage lender will instruct their valuer to carry out a survey when you have applied for your mortgage and paid the valuation fee. After this has been done your Mortgage Offer will be sent to you and Mortgage Instructions to your Solicitor. You may not get to see the valuation if it is a basic valuation. You will need the survey done and mortgage offer/instructions before you can exchange Contracts.

Have the survey done BEFORE you exchange contracts. That way, if your surveyor finds something disastrous, you can duck out of the purchase without penalty [except in Scotland where the rules are different]
