Most notebook manufacturers are trying to use the term notebook instead of laptops because the name "laptops" indicated laptops should work on your lap just fine but because of recent improvements to technology yet no improvements in cooling efficiency this causes the notebook/laptop to be a bit warmer and may overheat on your lap.

Laptops are called notebook PCs. Their is no difference. Its like 2 names of 1 thing. But netbook is different.
