    Stitches are too tight.

Did you remember to chain 3 for first stitch then put one stitch in same space,to start next round?

when you make those crocheted items, if you soak them in a saturated sugar mix, then let them dry with a form, they will keep their shape for a while, unless they are wet.

It is caused by the tension in the yarn.

Either your tension got tighter as you went or, you aren't increasing enough stitches in each round. Start over.
