Is it normal to have a severe distaste for tradition and authority?
I dislike tradition. It seems to me that human beings do many pointless, illogical things due to tradition. To me, a tradition should only stay in place if it stands up to reason and doesn't hurt/oppress anyone else. I can honestly say that reason has gotten us much, much further than tradition ever has. From where did we derive our medical knowledge? Reason. From where did we derive the ability to build? Reason. From where did all this technology come? Reason. I fail to see why so many people adhere to tradition, some strictly. It seems to me that saying something is a tradition isn't at all a valid argument for keeping it in place.
Secondly, I really despise authority. I feel that I, as well as a vast majority of society, could function without it. It is simply intrusive and even a bit unnecessary, and it seems to me that it causes a lot of unwanted stress and keeps people from being able to get along with one another due to such stress.
This is why I'm extremely liberal, by the way. It is this line of thinking. I'm a Democrat simply because there is no left libertarian party that is a viable contestant for winning an election and loosening control.
rabid_scientist, did you not read the last part fully? I'm an anarcho-communist, though I did not say that. I figured left libertarian implied that or something close to it, such as anarcho-syndicalism. I know that there aren't really many regulations removed by modern political parties at all, but the Democrats drive me towards the place I think we need to go more than the Republicans, and those two simply happen to be the majority parties, so at this point there's really nothing I can do but stand by the most viable competitor to the Republicans. That does not necessarily mean that I completely and totally agree with what the Democrats do all the time. For example, I'm moderate on gun control, not liberal, even though I would be considered far-left.

taurushead, surely you aren't under the impression that I'll ever grow to enjoy authority in my life after I've identified it and seen its transparency. I'll never enjoy oppression and slavery. Democrats don't believe in "no personal responsibility," nor do I. Democrats and I both want people to work, but we refuse to ignore people's plights and want to help them, not just ignore them and brush them off as irresponsible. Everyone knows that's not the only reason people have to go on welfare, food stamps, and etc. I don't care for capitalism because it creates divisions between people when there should be none. I don't care if I make a billion dollars. It's not going to change the fact that people are equal in terms of their materialistic needs and rights. I also dislike capitalism because, in order to have a decent modern standard of living, I have to go to work for someone who has false authority over me, when I'd much rath

rather work for society in general, not to put more money in the executives' pockets than mine. Without the workers the executives are absolutely worthless. It is the workers who make the product, it is the workers who write the manuals, scripts, etc., and it's the workers who should make the most.
Also, why should there even be a money system? What if I think that something is a total piece of junk and that I should have to pay about five dollars for something, but then the producer demands that I must pay twenty dollars? Value is subjective, so capitalism fails on the very premise that value is objective. There should be a place where everyone just stores the products and people take what they need.

You thoughts on "a severe distaste for tradition and authority" are normal but later you may come to appreciate them. As for being a Democrat surely the part of their philosophy regarding "no personal responsibility" fits you. However should you find yourself through education, training and hard work the beneficiary of the capitalist system you may have a problem with the economic part of their philosophy. They believe in high taxes, to punish success. Then, again, you may reconsider your belief in "no personal responsibility".

Both political parties are in the business of control. If you think democrats are an exception, they managed to fool you. Think about it. When was the last time anyone REMOVED a regulation? The longer government goes on, the more regulations we have, not the fewer. It doesn't matter who is in power. Every party thinks they know what's best for us, and that generally involves telling us what not to do. There are plenty of reasons to call yourself a democrat, but freedom from regulation is not one of them.
