Why are Americans "shy"?

Does any one know how is it that in general, Americans (or Americanized cultures) are "shy" about being seen naked...even in places where being naked SHOULD be the norm? (i.e. locker rooms, changing areas at public pools/beach, etc.) Is this a male thing, or are American women that way too.

I go to a traditional Korean spa in Los Angeles, California, and the Koreans who patronize this spa don't seem to have a problem with being naked around other men (strangers).

I like being naked at the spa...I don't mind being naked around other guys at locker/changing rooms, I don't get it. Why are most American males so "shy"?

Americans are conditioned by their culture to be more ashamed and embarrassed about their bodies, and to be offended by other people's bodies, than people in most countries are. Unfortunately, it's as simple as that.

Because America (and Canada) are the lands of censorship. They claim they don't want children to see private parts even though we all have them..people here generally feel uncomfortable about revealing themselves.. it's a cultural norm.

The North American culture likes to make believe we're all devoid of genital parts. (as an asexual I like it that way :p)

I guess cuz nudity is just seen in a sexual way, which is ridiculous. That's also the reason why you often hear breastfeeding mothers complaining about how they receive dirty looks when trying to breastfeed their child in public or aren't even allowed to..

Because you're (this NEVER happens on Y!A) overgeneralising, unless of course you took a statistically valid sample of 155 million men, which you didn't.
