really like how they sound, but the lyrics don't apply to how you feel?
BQ: Do you think that most people think that songs people like must be personal to them? (Which they obviously can not be, just like the sound.) =]

There are plenty of songs that I like melodically but can't stand lyrically.
And yes, I think a lot of people like songs in a superficial way, without any personal attachment whatsoever.

I like that song "Seeing Stars". It has a good beat, but I think the lyrics are meaningless.
My favorite songs tend to be ones with lyrics I can relate too such as "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 and "People Are Strange" by The Doors.

Quite a few.
There are lots where the lyrics don't make any sense at all, too!
As a lover of Classical Music, first and foremost, it is the melody that I find more appealing anyway.

I love the song "I Will Remember You" by Sarah Mclain and "Run" by Snow Patrol. Even though I've never lost anybody, these types of songs which talk about loss makes me feel sad and somehow that gives me a kick. I know I sound insane. But, I can't explain it.
I don't want to experience the pain of losing a loved one but there's something about songs whic talk about losing a loved one that gives me a kick. Maybe I feel more in touch with my feelings or maybe the pain is a powerful feeling or maybe I am insane.

Why is that when you're happy you enjoy the music, but when you're sad you understand the lyrics?
