Could nipple shields help?

My 10-month-old daughter is teething again and will not nurse without biting. Having made it this long, I am determined to try my best to make it to at least the full year mark with breastfeeding and pumping, but I don't feel that I will always be able to pump enough for her needs and breastfeeding is much more convenient and less stressful. Could nipple shields help correct this problem for a few days until the pain diminishes for her and she is ready to latch correctly again?

Update:

This is not a basic curiosity biting problem. I have already dealt with that in the past (she has six teeth already), and when it is curiosity biting the tips for dealing with that I have found work great. However, now she will only nurse for 30 seconds to a minute before she begins a gentle chew (that hurts with six teeth!) but gets frustrated, will not settle when I take the breast away. I've tried starting her off with something else (something cold to numb her gums, food to ease the hunger so she's not desperate) which has always solved this problem in the past, but have not found a solution this time. As I mentioned in the question, I only intend to use the nipple shields temporarily as I know they are not a permanent solution and should not be used long-term. However, I see no advice on using them with older babies or as a measure to assist with this problem, and don't even know if it's worth buying them to try.

I am not sure that your daughter will accept them, but you can try. Make sure to get the correct size.

Also, before you go out and buy them, take a look at kellymom.com and the La Leche League website for information on biting. You may find a technique that will help.

A nipple shield should be used in moderation and only when necessary because depending on your child it can mess up their latch because they latch differently with the shields. So when using this, only use for a short amount of time and if you know your daughter wont take a preference to the shield over the nipple.

When she bites immediately take her off the boob, and firmly tell her no. Wait a few minutes before latching her back on. if she does it again, take her off and firmly tell her no and then don't nurse her for a little awhile. She will understand after a few tries. This is what helped with my oldest who would bite me while nursing.
