I woke up with a white spot on my gum?

I was hoping it would go away but it is still after more than 2 days is there a way to cure it without going to the dentist?

First off, it's either a Canker Sore or a Cold Sore. Most likely a Canker sore because cold sore's usually are not white. I get these all the time, and here are a few ways I cure mine.

What causes Canker Sores? The exact cause of most canker sores is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple canker sores. Certain foods -- including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes, and strawberries) -- can trigger a canker sore or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger canker sores.

1)Canker Sores are healed over time, but Lysine pills speed the curing up.

2)Warm water and baking soda mix also helps healing and promotes comfort.

3)Avoiding foods that irritate your mouth, including citrus fruits and acidic vegetables and spicy foods

4)Try over-the-counter products that contain the numbing agent benzocaine, such as Anbesol and Orajel.

5)Dab a small amount of milk of magnesia on your canker sore a few times a day.

6)Apply ice to your canker sores by allowing ice chips to slowly dissolve over the sores.

  • Hi,

White spot or white lesions can be caused by many factors. It may be a simple thing as salt as someone suggested or it may be an oral cancer. It's always better to safe and have your dentist examine the spot.

If you are able to take a photo of the lesion, please visit our website www.fairoaksdentalcare.com and send your photo. One of our dentists may be able to give you better answer than me ( I work as a dental assistant).

Most likely if you've consumed any salty products. It just had. Chemical reaction and should go away soon. (With in 3-4 days)
