Are two 400mg the same as 800mg?

There are no available 800mg Aciclovir so the pharmacist gave me two 400mg, I'm wondering if the higher dose (800mg) is actually different from the smaller dosages (two 400mg), is it the same to just increase smaller dosages to make them equal the 800mg?

It's no different. They wouldn't give it to you if it were. For instance, I take Metformin @ 1000mg a day. I have to split it into two, take one in the morning, one at night. Still the same dosage.

This is an acceptable and legal way to fill a prescription. You are getting the SAME EXACT THING.

Source(s): Wrote lots of prescriptions for docs. Sometimes you've got to use what's available.
