I am not sure if I should answer my ex message or not? Help please?

Question

I just need someone else's point of view on this. I haven't heard from someone of my past...someone I dated for years. We stopped talking because after breaking up the person met someone else so the person decided to stop talking to me and I did the same and moved on. Now, after many years out of the blue I got a friendly message from the person wishing me a good year. I don't feel like answering the message but at the same time I am curious to know what is going on. I am not sure if I should just ignore the message, be nice and answer, or be rude and short...not sure what to do. Thanks for the help.

You haven't seen the person in years and you want to talk to him now? Or he's probably wants to see if you're open to re opening in the relationship. he drop you when he found somebody else now that he's not with them he's just checking it out. Come on baby have a little self respect. reply to his message said you have a good year also I am doing wonderful I hope you are too and thats it.
