No. You don't need to get a new MOT until the due date. However, bear in mind that it's still illegal to drive a car in an unroadworthy condition.
For peace of mind I'd recommend getting a 'pre-mot' check done. Ask your local MOT centre to check it as if they were doing an MOT and let you know if anything needs doing.
If you're unwittingly driving an unroadworthy car you may be putting your own life at risk as well as the lives of others.
However, if your car just suffered cosmetic damage (dented door or something) you'll be fine as long as there's no jagged metal sticking out. That's an MOT fail.

Hello
The First question is Was it Written Off by the Insurance Company,
If so what Cat ?
If Cat D then no as this normally means requires Full Paint (Cost more than car is worth). Any MOT that was on it is still in force.
If Cat C then yes as this means Work and check required before putting car back on road as previous MOT has been Invalidated

If it was professionally repaired then youe are fine to go till due date for MOT. If you had one of your mates who is handy with a hammer fix it then taking it to a MOT station for a safety check would be wise. Even then you don't need the full MOT and it should be a bit cheaper without the paperwork

Your friend probably means you should have a safety check to ensure the work was done properly.

No, it doesn't. You only need to get an MoT check annually. There isn't any need to get one done just because you've been in a crash.
