What minor engineering degree would complement petroleum engineering?

What is the difference between Petroleum and mechanical engineering. Also I wonder if geology is one of the few degrees that would go with Petroleum. Any thoughts? Thanks for help.

Petroleum engineers take geology courses so there is no reason to minor in geology.

Petroleum engineering is much closer to chemical engineering than mechanical. There is no simple way to contrast the two degrees. I suggest you so an online search for the two degrees and compare them.

You could get a job with a petroleum company as an engineer but it would not be a petroleum engineering job. That takes specific training and knowledge. A chemical engineering degree would be the best degree to try to convert to a petroleum engineering degree or job.
