Why was I charged extra at the post office for a flat rate box?

Today I got a medium flat rate priority mail box online so I could drop it off at the post office. I stood in line, though, because I ended up needing stamps, and the guy at the counter said it was 12-something, not 11.30, and charged me extra.

eBay, Stamps.com and USPS.com list the price as 11.30, so what happened?

$11.30 is the rate charged when you pay for and print your shipping label. If you go to the post office, you are charged full retail, which is $12.35. You were charged the correct amount.

Did you get tracking or delivery receipt confirmation? That costs extra.
