When did the Republicans and Democrats switch people?

Even up to the 1960's the Democrats were old white men and Southerners. By the time of Bush Jr. the Republicans had become the party of old white men and Southerners.

Update:

*portrayed as the party of old white men and Southerners.

teddy roosevelt was the last liberal republican. he broke away from the party and would of probably won a 3rd term as president under a his split party from the republicans. The democrats shortly after adopted TR platform and became what we now know as the democratic party.

The Republican Party has always been the party of wealthy old white men regardless what part of the country they were from.

    That never happened!

The southern strategy was not an attempt to get racists voting Republican, but to get DEMOCRAT SOUTHERNS voting Republican ... and it worked ONLY BECAUSE those leading the political exodus were southern COLLEGE STUDENTS, not old white racist men.

You can bleat about Republicans being racist all you like, but blacks live better in Republican cities than they do Democrat cities - Detroit being the finest example of how liberalism fails people.

I dont know, but both parties are too influenced by money, and therefore too corrupt to deserve votes.
