LAURIE ANDERSON: BOAT TO OPEN MAY 12

The first exhibition of Laurie's paintings in New York, Laurie Anderson: Boat is due to open Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 126 Leroy St in New York. On display will be a number of Laurie's works that bring the presence of the theater to the canvas. The show will also include a three-dimensional holographic reality entitled From the Air, as well as a series of drawings entitled Lolabelle in the Bardo depicting the 49 days between lives in The Tibetan Book of the Dead. LAURIE NAMED ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT EMPAC

The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at RPI announced May 9 that Laurie had been named its first distinguished artist in residence at RPI, with a three year term. Rensselaer's press release for the occasion stated that "The residency provides Anderson with wide access to space, technology, and support for creative experimentation, but as important, brings the artist into ongoing dialogue with students and faculty at Rensselaer." Laurie is delighted to be the first EMPAC artist-in-residence, and looks forward to working with EMPAC's crack technical and production teams. For the official announcement, click here.

ACADEMY OF THE ARTS DINNER

Laurie will be featured as a 2011 Honoree at the 27th Annual Guild Hall Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards. The Guild Hall awards "annually celebrate the creativity of an outstanding group of artists and visionaries on the East End whose work has consistently delighted and whose commitment to the arts has inspired us," according to the Academy of Arts' president. LAURIE TO SPEAK AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY

Laurie is set to deliver the 2012 Tim Hamill lecture at Boston University's School of Visual Arts on February 27th, 2012. The lecture will be free to the public. For more info, click here.

In a benefit for Green Gulch Farm's Hope Cottage, Laurie will be having a discussion with Tenshin Reb Anderson, Senior Dharma Teacher at San Francisco Zen Center and Dharma heir of Shinryu Suzuki-roshi. LAURIE TO PLAY TIBET HOUSE BENEFIT

LAURIE HONORED AT PRATT LEGENDS CEREMONY

On November 1st, Laurie will be honored at Legends 2011, a Pratt Institute scholarship benefit honoring icons of art and design. The Legends Awards were conceived in 1999 by the Board of Trustees of the Pratt Institute to celebrate distinguished individuals and corporations in the world of art and design, whose accomplishments and values resonate with those of Pratt Institute.

Laurie will be introduced by author Salman Rushdie, and additional honorees will include Juan Montoya and William Wegman. The event will be preceded by a cocktail reception at 6:00 PM, and a dinner at 7. For ticket information, click here.

FORTY-NINE DAYS IN THE BARDO OPENS SEPT 20TH

Laurie's new art exhibition, Forty Nine Days in the Bardo opens September 20th at The Fabric Workshop and Museum. A multimedia body of work, Forty Nine Days uses The Tibetan Book of the Dead as a structure to explore the themes of love, death, dreaming, and illusion. Installations include texts, drawing, sculpture, projection, and sound. The show will be running from September 20th until November 19th, and Laurie will be giving a performance and talk on October 13th--for more info click here.
