In twenty-some years OF US military service I never saw "Alfa" in print. Always "Alpha".
It's an international phonetic ALPHAbet used by NATO and others. The US is a member of NATO.
Where did you get that "ALFA" stuff?

Well for NATO and the USN you are all wrong. Just because you have seen it wrong so many times does not make it right. The NATO issued and USN followed radio users telecommunication hand book and several other US and NATO communication hand books show and some explain why it is correctly "ALFA" not Alpha. It does not matter how many times you have seen it or how many years, rank or inches on your dick. The publication instructions state ALFA. Many newer instructions use alpha because they have fallen for the same assumption as most people. The original and still used NATO publications clearly state the correct spelling.

Jarrod and Steve are right. It's spelt Alfa no matter how many times you see football spelt 'soccer'
Source(s): NATO spells it Alfa due to European differences in language and communication perceptions. - The SheepdogLv 78 years ago
ALPHA is how NATO spells it; it's the only way to spell it as far as we're concerned.
The Russians use "ALFA" or альфа

No. Cruelty and criminal behavior is not "strength" it is simply neanderthal. As in: low-functioning cerebral aptitude. Hint: if you think acting like a stupid ape is "attractive" to females, you aren't familiar with American women, dude. EDIT: Barcelona? OhMyGOD that's funny. Uh, yeah. You're in a really good position to be judging what American women find attractive. NOT.

alpha is used
@se10
it comes from greek..
like photo-, phone-, philosophy, physiology, physics... all of those being anglosaxon transliteration of greek words where phoneme phi was used.spelled [fee]
so the answer to your question is rather simple... English language is inconsistent in transliteration, otherwise there would be philms, pheatures, phavorites and phlavours.
you know, all these kappa phi rho cliques... the letters have actually deeper meaning than just obscure symbols of bully organisations.
