Why does YA have a point system?

If the whole point of YA is to be able to ask/answer questions, why is there a points system? Seems kind of silly to me.

to limit how many questions you ask and also so people will answer questions.

The point system is to encourage users to answer questions instead of just posting questions. Without the point system the questions would be more ridiculous then they are now and the site would be flooded with spam.

At the top of your screen go to About, click Points & Levels and this will explain how the system works.

Points have no monetary value and there are no prizes, no cigars no nada, it's really just the satisfaction of helping others, no strings attached., or possibly bragging rights (big deal). There are seven levels, more points give you more participation rights so it can also be an ego thing and keep us interested..

To move up answer lots of questions, the maximum you can do every day trying for best answer which gives you ten points, and avoid asking questions that costs you five points. When you ask a question be sure to return and pick a best answer to get 3 points back. Be sure to vote for undecided questions, you get a point for that. An easy way to check the complete setup and privileges: Click "about" above the green bar above scroll down click "points and levels" or click the link below and you will see the complete setup.

I think it's to monitor how many things you answer and ask a day. I like the point system :P

it is style of like a carrot dangled in front of a mule, or a marathon that under no circumstances ends. i think of it may be thrilling to furnish specific opportunities to those that have attained extreme stages, like the prospect to ask inquiries to genuine experts in a given container, or take part in terrific answer (or worst answer) competitions. The winner ought to income, you guessed it, greater factors!
