I heard that SA issued new money. Are the old notes still valid?

I just found some money from a holiday in SA nearly 10 years ago. Will I still be able to use that money if I go to SA on holiday again?

Although the continual distribution for circulation by the Bank of the old R1, R2 and R5 banknotes has ceased, all existing South African R1, R2 and R5 banknotes remain legal tender in the Republic of South Africa. Accordingly, all banks are obliged to continue to accept these banknotes as legal tender in the Republic of South Africa.

But you can also exchange them at the Reserve Bank

Yes they are. They are just being phased out. What a waste of tax payers money :/

Those new notes look like Monopoly money :/ ... the colours are way too rich and all of them have Mandela's face on them. I have loads and loads of the "old" notes they are replacing and they are all being accepted in stores.

Also, all money that is replaced or discontinued can easily be taken to the banks and replaced or given the value of the money. I have a collection of old coins and I can exchange them all for current money.
