Retired people, what do you suggest on us young working fellas to achieve satisfying retirement?

So, I was curious what you would've done when you were younger to make a much better retirement than you do have now. As early as 20, I'd love to know what your advices are. Will be very appreciated!

Take full advantage of employer's 401k programs and IRA. You really can't put away too much towards retirement.

Take good care of your health -- good diet, exercise, regular checkups.

Retirement really sucks if you have health problems and limited funds.

if you don't know anything about the stock market you should start by buying either vanguard total stock market or a combination of spy, qqq, and dia. no matter what the market does short term you will do ok long term. then start learning about investing. not only will you retire with a lot of money but it is actually a lot of fun. preferably you should do all this in an ira or 401k or both if you can afford it. starting young as you can is all the better. example. invest $2000 a year for 10 years at age 20 and stop. you will have more money than if you start at 30 and invest $2000 a year for the rest of your life. wish someone would have convinced me at 20. great question

Open a Roth IRA account. The sooner you start saving, the more you'll have when you retire.

Don't save what is left after you spend. Spend what is left after you save.
