What's the best way to handle neighbors dog?

I have new neighbors that moved next door and they have a dog. After a nice, relatively warm, weekend, the snow melted in my backyard to expose a ton of dog feces every where. There is also a huge pile right in front of my house in my front yard. There is no fence and I really don't want to put one up since I have a tiny yard. I have every intention of talking to the neighbor tonight about this, but what should I do about the stuff in my yard? And how do I keep the dog out of mine? Does moth balls and cayenne pepper actually work? Should I just rake all their dogs feces into their side of the driveway or yard?

Cayenne pepper my mom said it works but not sure. Anyway do talk to them and see if they mind cleaning it from your yard as it belongs to their dog. It they refuse or become an *** then get a no trespassing sign put in clean view and try to get a picture of them in your yard then you might be able to call the police. That is what my grandma did once to the man across the street she was really old.

It is always tricky keeping on good terms with neighbours over subjects such as this. It often leads to arguments or a little bit of hostility, however you are completely in the right to ask your neighbour to remove all that is there.

Technically if they are not complying, you have every right to issue a bi-law complaint and bi-law takes these sort of issues a lot more seriously that you would expect.

Talk to the neighbour first and make sure they realize that there is a time line. As in, you want all of the feces gone from your yard by tomorrow morning, not open ended where they say they'll do it and not get around to it until spring, if then.

I think that if you talk politely but firmly and they do not comply by the given timeline, you should complain to bi-law. It's not fair for you to be dealing with their dog's excrement. In most cases, Bi-law will issue a written notice to the neighbour, telling them that they need to deal with the problem, and it will list consequences if the neighbour does not comply.

In the case where your neighbour still does not remove the defecation after a bi-law warning, you can make a second complaint. In which case your neighbour will most likely get a fine.

I know that it sucks dealing almost on hostile terms such as these but at the same time, its your property and you have every right to a clean back yard.

ps, if at some point you decide that a fence is the only option, I think I heard somewhere that you can force the neighbour to split costs because it is fencing part of their yard as well... I suggest taking pictures of what your yard looks like and what it looks like again in a few days, so that you have proof that they are not taking care of the problem.

    I hope this helps !!

First of all, you have to determine if the poop came from their dog.

And then you knock on their door and tell them to clean it up or you will call in the bylaw officer on them.
