Antarctic sea ice extent record approaching?
Did you know that the Antarctic sea ice is approaching its summer minimum? It is on track to be the highest minimum on record.
Go ahead and Google that and see what you can find. Why do you think it is so difficult to find a story on this?
Actually, here I'll get you started with Google News for "antarctic sea ice extent": https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&gl=ca&tbm=nws&q...
It's almost like Google is programmed to redirect to the Arctic and ignore the Antarctic. Fascinating.

Baccheus: Sorry I wasn't more clear about sea ice vs. land ice and extent vs volume.
Here is my revised title: ANTARCTIC ** SEA ** ICE ** EXTENT ** record approaching?

This ought to warm your cocoa. Just Google news on Antarctic by itself: https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&gl=ca&tbm=nws&q...

@Big Gryph: You really need to read Baccheus' answer more carefully (it's right above you).

You are right about them ignoring Antarctic. I think most people think of the Arctic when they think polar and forget about the southern pole. Jeff seems to reluctantly admit that Antarctic sea ice is increasing yet he holds hope that somewhere somehow they will show a patch that is decreasing and then Google will be all over it.
I don't really know that Google is in on a conspiracy and I think you were probably a bit tongue in cheek but the amount of propaganda that is on the web is really sickening. I have tried looking up sea level rise for example and you get forwarded to a bunch of biased sites. Wiki is almost worthless unless you take into account it is also biased. You provided a pretty funny example as well.

Geeze. Have any of you conspiracy theorist used a search engine before? If you want it to look exclusively for the word "antarctic", put it in quotes. Problem solved. Google doesn't have a good help page you can actually find, but putting quotes around exact words and phrases has been a common thing since the internet has been up. On to the next conspiracy.

And this has never happened in the whole history of climate evolution in the past few billion year?
Maybe as more ice melts new fossils of palm trees and turtles will be discovered on antarctica giving us even more detail when the polar continent was a warm lush densely populated forest 35 to 55 million years ago.

Which sells more papers (or digital equivalents): "We found 20 new things that can kill you horribly", or "Things really aren't all that bad"?
Of course, people pay more attention to bad news than good news. You usually need to *react* to bad news (eg: avoid the 20 things that can kill you horribly), you rarely *need* to react to good news, unless it's something immediately relevant to you. So, of course the media will pay more attention to declining Arctic sea ice, and to declining overall Antarctic ice mass, than it will to an increase in Antarctic sea ice extent. One of those things is not a problem, and thus doesn't need to be reacted to.

I think Baccheus is finally realizing that the glaciers expand and contract on their own and without the help of humans (I swear he said that! It's my story and I'm sticking to it.). Dr Ian Clark has been showing this for years. I feel a correlation coming.
Dr, Ian Clark also showed how CO2 rises after temperatures rise. There is a definite correlation when they investigated ice core samples.

How do YOU know there is a record approaching?
YOU didn't bother to give a link to where you got YOUR information from.
YOU just told us that google doesn't have a story on it.
Why should WE think there is a "record approaching" (however meaningless a statement that is) when YOU tell us to search for information and WE can't find it?
EdIT: 9 hours after posting my answer. Still patiently waiting for your source Mike.

Isn't it funny how these saviors of the earth can get so picky about 'ice extent' and yet can't begin to define Global Warming or Climate Change.
In direct answer: Yes, just ask those scientists an McMurdo.

The environmentalists got caught with their pants down, last year, because they thought the 'ice extent' was shrinking.

That's peculiar. Bing is a little more accommodating. Google won't show anything ANTarctic in a search.

See "A visit to Antarctica" in the reference.

The Antarctic Ice Sheet, which is glacial ice, is losing volume. Antarctic sea ice, which is frozen seawater, is expanding due primarily to changes in winds.
Be specific whether you are talking about volume or about extent. Be specific whether you are talking about sea ice or glacial ice. Those who cannot tell the difference should be ignored.
