REPUBLICANS: Would you vote for me as Governor of Pennsylvania? Assume you are a PA resident?
I am a 17 year old senior from Pennsylvania. It's sort of weird that I'm a Republican since I'm black and from Philadelphia...so yeah xD Here is what I would try to do as Governor of my great state:
-Impose stricter standards on state-issued entitlement programs, especially welfare, food stamps, and Medicade. I would want a drug test, mental health screening, and an explanation from the recipient on how he/she will spend the state-issued money. Also, I would want to shorten the time in which said benefits can be received.
-Spend more money on the educational system, especially expenditures such as requiring foreign language to be taught in the younger grades, greater emphasis on STEM fields, and investing in our colleges, including state-owned universities (IUP, Kutztown, West Chester), state-related universities (Penn State, Temple, Pitt), community colleges, and technical schools.
-Try to amend the state constitution, defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
-Spend money on Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to attract new tourists. Being a resident of Philadelphia, I believe that either Philly International should expand, or that there should be another international airport either in the Philly area, South Jersey, or Northern Delaware
-Support the dredging of the Delaware river in order to bring in more ship traffic to Philadelphia
Would you vote for me?
No, I don't want to be the Governor of PA at 17; it's impossible to do that! I'm talking about when I'm old enough to run (If I even do :P)

I'm not a resident of PA, but I'd vote for you in a heart beat.
You definetly seem to know what you're talking about, and your plan to better the education system and your plan to bring more ship traffic to philli seems good too.
I'm a resident of NJ, I live in Jersey city, but I have relatives living in the philadelphia area. infact, one lieves on south street. He tels me about the terrible education system all the time. It sounds like you've got a good plan going here.
There's one extra thing I would want from you though, can you get rid of that soccer stadium in chester? What the heck is that doing there? that city has a casino, bank, and now a soccer stadium and yet the citizens aren't any richer. not one person ahs benefitted from this.
Source(s): EX philli resident, also do something about those shootings, over 200 this past year! *smh*. - CalvinLv 78 years ago
I would likely vote for you considering the opposition....but your ideas to spend more and more would not be something I favor. A better platform would be to slash unnecessary budgets and work towards surpluses (to reduce taxes and make that which must be kept more efficient).
I favor more of a libertarian viewpoint in my politics, but have to admit that your constitutional amendment idea would be popular with many in PA (would get you votes and give you a platform to fight on....getting you attention). I do think however that if you wanted a future beyond PA political office that a shift to much more libertarian views (socially and fiscally) would be far better for you....and would be FAR better for the state of PA.
Personally I think spending money to attract tourist to Pittsburgh and Philly is a bad idea...people do not vacation in those places. I lived in South Jersey for many years so I get what you are trying to do but don't think it will work...and even if it could work that should be the job of the city not the state.
Attract business to PA by improved business climates, slash taxes, cut spending, fight unions. Stand for liberty...lower taxes....and a reduced government role in all things.

I like a lot of the things you said. I'm not so sure about dredging the Delaware River though. I sounds very expensive.

If you want to win over Republican voters, it should be less about spending money.
Strict standards for the entitlement programs and your conservative views on marriage are a great bonus though

Probably not.
I'm a resident of NJ and have considered moving over to PA but DE sounds like a better option.
More gun rights, less crime and lower taxes.

ANYONE who tries to waste tax dollars doing something so pointless doesn't deserve to be elected anywhere.
