So this is always a tough question at this time. Current smartphones are going to get replaced pretty soon (probably in about 3 months), so you are on the borderline of getting an outdated phone right now. As a result, I would TRY to wait until late-spring or early-summer before getting a new smartphone. You are making a 2-year commitment (3 years in the UK, right?), so you do not want to short yourself getting a phone that is almost a year old and about to be replaced with a newer version of itself. This goes for the iPhone, Android devices, Windows Phone devices, and everything else.

That said, I'll give you 10 options. Yahoo is too limited for me to properly explain myself here, so if you DO want an explanation. Feel free to send me an e-mail (cubs223425@yahoo.com), and I will gladly offer information on whatever you want.

    Windows Phone:

    1. Nokia Lumia 920: This is my Windows Phone 8 device, and I love it. You get 32 GB of storage (no microSD slot, though), wireless charging (not in any non-Windows Phones), and THE BEST camera technology currently available in a modern smartphone.

    2. Nokia Lumia 8xx: The "xx" refers to the fact that there are many options here. There is the Verizon 822 (my sister's phone), the AT&T 820, and the T-Mobile 810. I cannot remember what the branding is internationally, in terms of model number (I would expect them to all be the 820), but the devices are essentially the same internally. You will get the came processor that you get with the 920 and Galaxy S III, but with a lesser display and less storage.

    3. Windows Phone 8X by HTC: These are tough to sell, but some people really like the look and feel of them. The hardware is MOSTLY the same, but Nokia has a better exclusive app selection and camera tech, plus more storage. All of that means that the 8X is an overall inferior device, but if you like it, you like it.

    4. Future Windows Phones: This is where you need to wait. The end of February is Mobile World Congress, where new smartphones are probably going to be getting a LOT of coverage. Nokia is expected to announce a successor to the Lumia 920, which is expected to have an aluminum body and a 41MP camera, to go with the amazing PureView technology (for the record, the 920 has an 8.7MP camera, while others usually have an 8MP camera). So, if you are capable of waiting, watch for these.

    Android:

    5. HTC Droid DNA: I have a friend who is (like myself) big on smartphones, and this is the device of his choice. It apparently gets GREAT battery life, though some might be put off by the 5" display. It is a powerful device, but it is also looking likely to be replaced soon, as most smartphones are.

    6. Samsung Galaxy S III: It has mostly the same internals as the Lumia 920, but it lacks the camera and wireless charging (the S III has one of the worst cameras around, actually), and only has 16 GB of storage (but microSD support to expand it to more than the Lumia 920's 32 GB by a good margin). This is one that is likely to be the first current smartphone to be replaced though, so it is hard to recommend it. It is a great choice among todays' devices, but today's devices are close to being replaced.

    7. Samsung Galaxy Note II: Like the others, this is one that SHOULD get replaced soon. It has the large 5.5" display, so that might be a no-go for some. It is still supposed to be a nice device (I don't know anyone with one myself), and has a bit of a performance edge on the S III, though it costs about $100 more.

    8. Future Android devices: As I just said, devices are close to being replaced. The Galaxy S IV should be here in a few months, likely in the spring. The next Note could follow it as well. It's hard to say what is coming when, but know that it is fast approaching.

    iOS:

    9. iPhone 5: I feel obligated to mention this device, but the iPhone has been a technologically inferior device for 2 or 3 models now. The 5 lacks NFC, which has been commonplace for almost 2 years. It has a low-resolution display, MUCH worse than the competition, and the tiny 4" display is not as good for viewing videos or playing games. The storage is less than the Lumia 920, at 16 GB, and there is no microSD slot, so what you get is all you get.

    10. iPhone 5S/6: Yet again, we're nearing the end of the line for devices. The iPhones tend to wait a full year to come out, so it MIGHT not be until the fall before the next Apple product is dropped. We're not sure, but it's the typical route they go with. Still, with the trend of mediocre hardware, it would be tough to say that the successor to the iPhone 5 is worth waiting for, especially is the wait is 9 months.

Again, that is the barebones explanation for this stuff. If you want some further explanation, e-mail me (cubs223425@yahoo.com).

i would really recommend you to buy samsung galaxy s3.

it has a big screen and has loads of function in it.

well if you are user of an iphone you should buy iphone 5

it is a cool and nice looking phone.

The phone i love and im sure you will as well will be samsung galaxy note 1 or 2

both of them are really nice and have the same functions as samsung galaxy s3 but some of them are even better than s3. it has a bigger screen than galaxy s3 and you get a spen which can help you writing down notes whenever you want to

so basically i would really recommend you to buy Samsung Galaxy note 2

You should wait a couple more months and get the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the iPhone 5S/6 which is rumored to release in March or April. The current models out there will be obsolete in a matter of months.

If you have th Tocco Lite at the moment, I guess you aren't looking for a high cost 'phone?

In which case, look at the Samsung Galaxy Ace2. It's much better than the Tocco and retails for around £175 mark but you can probably get it cheaper if you shop around.

I don't know that many smartphones aside from the Galaxy and iPhone

Right now I got the Samsung Galaxy S3 and it's amazing. I could've gotten an iPhone, but I would practically be like everyone else with their iPhones. Rather be a little different :P

It really depends on your budget, and there are android phones for every budget. I would say orange SF for under £100, Xperia U for under £200, and then a samsung galaxy SIII or Google Nexus 4 for anything over that. Hope this helps!

Either the galaxy s3, note 2 or iPhone 4S. I don't know anyone who actually wants the iPhone 5.. They keep choosing the 4s..

Apple vs android (in favour of android) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMiY1kSTHZw

Apple vs android (non biased): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL-0EFkA6Xg

Blackberry good for testing but android and apple are more advanced operating system

Another alternative is windows phone 8 which is great for integration with windows apps not as good as android for customisation or apps but has a unique user interface.

There is no best operating system it depends on what you want to do with your phone and which user interface is best for you.

There are lots of comparisons on Google and YouTube and many of them I have found to be very useful.
