Should I buy an electric guitar?

I just started Guitar classes.. Its almost a month.. I am practicing on acoustic guitar.. I am currently working on the basic chords like A,C,D,E,G.. I am not able to play them perfectly yet..

I listen to rock and punk songs, which I don't think is possible to play with acoustic guitar.

I am planning to buy an electric guitar in next month or so. I am playing on the acoustic just to develope my finger strength and learn the basic chords..

I want to learn all the power and barre chords..

Will it be a right choice to buy electric guitar so soon ??

please advice..

Thanks in advance..

Update:

Par 4 bro its already been more than two weeks and and I have to say I am loving it :D

Update 2:

@English ... I was thinking the same thing.. Practice on acoustic and play on the electric so that I don't get frustrated.. As electric is easy to play :)

Dude, go ahead and buy and electric. It's something that your gonna be able to do forever, and only get better at it. My band means the world to me and I will never regret learning to play guitar. My only recommendation to you is to actually save up and spend about $400 on a good electric guitar. Spend a couple days testing out guitars at a shop (never buy one over the internet). You've played acoustic for 3 months now and know you like it, so get a guitar that you will want to keep forever!

I recommend you first learn on an acoustic guitar for reasons you mentioned (developing finger strength, mastering the basic chords and techniques). It's always easier to play electric guitar in my opinion, but you will make more rapid progress if you stick with acoustic for some time. After you feel you've got the basics and you're interested in learning lead guitar or electric guitar riffs, I'd say that's the time to go ahead and buy an electric guitar.

Of course, if you do choose to buy and electric guitar it's not a problem, but make sure you keep up with your acoustic practice as it will really help you develop your guitar skills.

Don't rush with electric guitar buying. Play acoustic for now (for about a year) and then consider about electric. Listen to many electric guitars, research features, brands, pickups, electronics, amps and other related stuff. You'll have good knowledge about this all and you'll buy good electric guitar set.

For now play acoustic, strengthen hands, theory and skills. Electric guitar in general is very similar, but the distortion sound requires a little bit different technique

not until you've got the feel, bro. not until then. you'll make a stupid decision about buying a guitar, and you won't like it afterwards. happens to everyone I advise about guitars. you've just gotta wait to see what kind of guitar you like and what kind likes you back.

I think you should wait until you're three months into playing, you might get bored of it in a week or two and quit playing.

    yes...

    both have different concepts..

you can learn either one before...

i started on the elsetric, then learnt acoustic..so it depends..

the most important thing is you should enjoy..
