    Yes, you are correct. You can cancel out the 1 "a" and the b

    That leaves a^2 /1 = a^2

    Yup! a^2 is correct. An a in the numerator and denominator cancel and so do the b in the numerator and denominator. You are left with a*a which is equal to a^2.
