The Marine Corps are equipped for early entry, while the Army is equipped for sustained fighting

The Army is much larger than the Marine Corps

Read more difference you got here: http://www.differencebetween.net/miscellaneous/pol...

  • JHC some of you kiddies have been to the John Kerry School of Myth!

Isaac is wise Marine, Wreath is a well seasoned...will guess SSG...and even wiser Soldier. So for you kiddies, other than the 2 gentlemen mentioned, the US Army is very close to 5 times larger than the Marines. While they go to separate initial training environments they learn damn close to the exact same tactics......SAME! The Marines can state they are the first in...fine no one really gives a flying phuq....they are now the ONLY US force to make an amphib landing on live TV....yeah boss Force Recon hit the shores of Somalia to TV lights and live coverage.

If you count up all the WWII amphip landings in both Theaters you will find numbers almost identical. With 22 Army Divisions in the Pacific and 6 Marine Divisions........do the phuqing math... and the fact there were no Marine in the ETO....again do the math.

Marines have Recon, Army has Cav Scouts

Marines have Force Recon....Army has 2 Airborne Brigade Combat Teams...one in Alaska, the other in Italy...plus a full Division in NC

Army has 3 Battalions of Rangers, 20 Battalions of SF on active Duty plus the 19th and 20th in the Guard with another 8 Battalions.

    The Marines have MARSOC.

They all go to jump school on Ft. Benning

They can all go to Army Ranger School.

SOOOOOOO what is the real big difference....where they are forward deployed.....the Army on solid ground in Europe, S Korea, Italy, Japan, Okinowa...Marines too. The Marines are at sea with the bulk of their forward deployed with Australia being a new land base.

If you look up the weapons they use there is little difference...a M4 vs a M16 is NOT a massive difference..the uniform differences are not big...the Dress Uniform..mmm the Marines get that prize...and the ladies too over some poor Soldier in that old sucky butt green class A...but they are changing back to Blue.

Rank....you want to be a E4 in 2 years join the Army....will guess many Marines still do 4 and come out a E3.

YOU Fuzzbutt DEP clowns need to shut the phuqing pie hole and listen to the Wreaths and Isaacs...both know the current structure well.

    SSG US Army 73-82

Wreath hope you are all healed up now young man!

There are differences but a majority of it really is the mind set of each group. In the Marine Corps we spend alot more time learning our history of where we come from, what we stand for etc. Our leaders from the very beginning instruct us that we are indeed brothers and sisters and we must have each others back at all times. Now that does not mean that Soldiers in the Army are not close. I can promise any person that spent a deployment especially as infantry with a fellow being whether they are ARMY OR MARINE they are going to form a very strong bond. There is a difference in the weapon systems we use. The Army has more funding and can upgrade their weapon systems and gear so to say more often than we do. We get alot of their hand me downs which is perfectly fine. The schools made available are different in every branch. Army has, Green Berets, Ranger School, Jump school, and many others. We have Recon and MARSOC that are most commonly known. Both have sniper Schools. So really each one does offer alot and both are important for the safety of our country. I suggest talking to both Recruiters and just soldiers and Marines in general.... don't mention you are determining between the two.... just ask them what their experiences have been (otherwise it just turns into them bashing on the other service.). Also depending on what MOS you want may help determine which Branch you desire to serve within as well.

The Army is bigger and is the primary land warfare branch.

The Marines are an amphibious expeditionary force.

Don't listen to these Martard Poolees as they don't have a clue. Especially Shaquille.

@Shaquille. No it doesnt. The President can mobilize any branch of the military for up to 90 days without congressional approval. After 90 days that mobilization must be approved by congress.

The Marines have never once been the first into a war or the last out.

The Marines PFT actually has easier passing requirements than the Armys.

Feel free to keep passing on your incorrect poolee knowledge though. Just makes us laugh at you more.

When they say Marines are the first one in they mean out of all the branches. The USMC is the only branch that doesn't require congress permission to deploy. The Marine Corps was made for being the kick in and move force while the Army sustains. That's why the Marine Corps deployments are shorter because it isn't a force that was meant to sustain long battles like the Army.

@Josiah You've done all that studying and don't know Marines aren't Soldiers? If you didn't know it or not Marines are trained to shoot farther than a Soldier. Look up the Marine Corps PFT and the Army's test and you tell me the difference.

@Wraeth So the Army doesn't need congress say so to deploy?

Depends what you wanna do. There's a big difference between combat MOS and support. I can speak on infantry in the army. Overall we have better equipment and more school oppurtunities such a airborne and air assault than marines. Army deployments are typically longer but more time in between while marines have shorter deployments but shorter rest time between them. Marines work alongside the navy also. I have nothing but respect for both soldiers and marines and neither one is better than other as far as combat arms goes. Support MOS's though I have no clue

As a fellow Yahoo'er, I thought I'd give my possible solution. Hey I am 17 and about to enlist and I just got over this. There really isn't a big difference between them. Marines are hard workers and heavily motivated. Army is easier Adios!

  • Assuming that you're talking about the US forces:

The Marines get to have armed fixed-wing aircraft, such as F/A-18's and Harriers. The Army doesn't.

The Army has combat engineer units. The Marines rely upon the Navy Seabees.

One branch is the army the other is marines, the differences are obvious

First, the Marines are unique because they are deployed on land, on ships, and also in the air. A MAGTF (Marine Air Ground Task Force) has men for infantry, is deployed on ships, and has enough planes and helicopters for their mission. In the Army, you rely on Air Force fixed wing planes and never deploy at sea. However, the Army offers more opportunities, such as Airborne. Air Assault, and Ranger Schools.
