Does using a ziplock for icing to decorate cupcakes really work? If so, got any tips?

I've used this method dozens of times, and I actually prefer it over a pastry bag, mainly because I can toss it away after I'm finished icing. I suggest using a freezer bag though, thicker plastic. The cheaper the baggy, the more risk you have of it splitting at the seem, and boy that's a mess! You can also use your cake decorating tools as well, just twist slow so you don't rip the bag.

Thats fondant icing , not buttercream via the way (: the perfect thank you to get that consequence could be to purchase a piping bag (dont worry they're great low value and you gets them very almost everywhere) Fill the piping bag with some thick icing and swirl it on wish this enables !! (:

Yes, it works, with practice. Try different sizes for the hole and different distances from the cake.

For anything really fancy, you'll need pastry tips for the end of the bag.

They will work but they can be difficult as the plastic is too hard, you are better with a softer type of plastic bag as they are easier to fold down when filling and easier to tie a knot around the top when you have it partially full

If you don't have a pastry bag it is ok. You can get a pastry bag at Walmart for under $10. It's a lot easier and they have different tips so you can be fancy.
