As I said on your other question, the universe does not expand into space. The singularity that expanded during the Big Bang WAS the universe. There was and is nothing outside it.
I don't know why, on your other question, you insisted I had said space and matter were the same. I didn't say that, it isn't true. Matter and **energy** are interchangeable and hence can be regarded as the same thing.

The universe "makes it" as it expands. Or just look at it as the already existing space is getting bigger.

The universe is basically like a giant balloon.
someone in a much greater universe is blowing it up, so it is filling the empty space in their universe

nothing, it is believed that there was no before the big bang theory says that out of absolute nothingness no time and no matter the universe was formed.
