Does the Walking Dead television show have anything to do with the Walking Dead video game?

The walking dead video game is similar to the comics but there are a couple of characters from the t.v show i think

Remember, the entire walking dead franchise is based off the original Walking Dead comic book.

The TV show is more-or-less based off the comic book storylines. It features the same characters as the comic does.

The Walking Dead game however, centers around an entirely original cast of characters (with a few being characters from the comics, such as Glenn and Hershel) who are not in the show or the comics. It does take place within the same universe though.

Tell Tale's Walking Dead game has nothing to do with the show; the game just follows a separate story. If you didn't know already there is also a comic book series for the Walking Dead, which came out before the show and the video game. Also there is a new Walking Dead game from Activition coming out later in 2013.

(This is very late) I believe it takes place in the comics series. I say that because, (Spoilers) Shawn Greene, Hershel's son died in episode one of the game, which takes place like one or two days after the dead started walking. Shawn Greene, in the tv series dies in the R.V that Ricks group had (Spoilers from tv series) He got killed by zombies in the RV when Rick and Carl set the barn on fire. They jumped on top of it, I think. And shawn gets ripped apart by zombies as Rick and Carl get away, and fight through the herd on Hershel's farm. This was in the season finale, of season two. And in the comics, Hershel never mentions his son Shawn I think. And, (Spoilers from episode one of the game again) When the cop is telling you about a guy, while you were being taken to prison, who had a pair of glasses, and murdered his wife in front of his children. He was talking about (Spoilers from the comics) Thomas, who was seen in volume three of the comics. He had severed the heads of Hershel's two young Daughters, and tried to kill Andrea by doing the same thing. Rick sees what happens, and beats the **** out of Thomas. He was a lady killer. But the one thing that struck me first is the comic book style. And, The show came after the comics by Robert Kirkman, so those characters are not just from the show. I just want to show what I think, and please don't comment back negatively. And yes, it is very late. I apologize.

Not really. The game is set in the same time, but (almost) all the characters are completely seperate and have their own story arcs.

The only character in the game that appears in the show is Glenn, but he leaves the group later on, and that leads to his appearance in the show.

Yeah, it's set within the same time frame as the actual series. Hershel is at the start of the game when he hasn't lost any of his family yet. Glenn is with the group in the game before he meets up with Rick's group in the series. So, the game is linked with the tv series, but the prime characters in the game never appear in the tv series
