Speculative: Is classism the new racism?

I recently read an article put out by a very democratic non-profit organization that created strong connections in its language and comparisons (similes) between wage disparities and racial disparities, making it seem as if though classism (not discrimination, just the simple existence of it) was as evil as racism.

I should add, that the article made use of a lot of racism to support its point in saying that low-wage earners in America were all minorities (I guess the poor white people in West Virginia and the South do not count).

This article was not online, but rather apart of a regular media e-mail sent out to people on their e-mail list.

Am I wrong in thinking that race is not something that can be changed, and so yes discriminating because of skin color is wrong, but economics is something that a person can change with hard work, training/education, determination, blind luck, and thus is a somewhat fluid state of being?

So why the propoganda article, or is classism become the new racism in our society?

I do believe there is a serious problem in this country (and many others) with classism. Unfortunately, it is not a problem most Americans are willing or even able to recognize It is institutionalized in our tax code and rears its ugly head every time you hear a politician say the words, "fair share." It is an all out assault on high earners - business leaders, entrepreneurs, the talented, the accomplished, the competent.

Lower earners have taken it upon themselves to leach off of others through government, and vilify them too boot, rather than make something of themselves with whatever talent they have. You hear it all the time, that the wealthy are selfish and evil, that they take advantage of the lower classes and steal from them even as they provide them with the jobs by which means they survive. It is said they need to give back to society even after they have provided society with services so valuable that it made them wealthy. After having their motives questioned, their methods questioned, their integrity impugned, their wealth is then stolen by a tax code that takes over half of what they earn. And when that isn't enough to keep the lights on in Washington, politicians play class warfare to get even more.

Do we have a classism problem. Absolutely. It's just not the one this article would insinuate.
