Army vs. Marine Corp. - Help!?
I am sixteen years old in highschool, I will graduate and join the US Army, however all of my friends are going in to the Marine Corp and give me a hard time because "the Army is gay" (so they say). I tell them that in the end it will be up to us to go to the places that no one else wants to go and do the tasks that no one else wants to do (those are the words of my uncle in the armed services). What can I tell him so to show them that the Marine Corp is not superior to the rest and that the army is not wimpy or "really easy to be in"?

You should tell them that you will get to shoot weapons, if you are infantry, and do what you want to do in the Army without putting up with the tougher physical training and all the chicken manure Marines put up with. Tell them that while they are cramped up on an assault ship with nothing to do but PT, practice martial arts, and spit shine equipment you will be on land playing soldier and having a good time. Tell them they may be facing forces with superior numbers while the Army has enough people to outnumber the enemy.
Maj Kev made some good points. The Marines are few compared to the Army and are usually under the command of someone else in wars. The Marines were under the command of the Navy in WWII and the Army in other large wars. They don't worry about what kind of equipment they have, who the commander is, or whether the enemy outnumbers them 10 to 1. They don't whine and whimper about it, they have a job to do and they get the job done. They are MARINES.

Here's the way it boils down.
There IS a rivalry between the Marines and the Army. That will always be. However, those who have actually served know that in the end, ALL branches of the military have a job to do and they all do it well. Those who have actually served know this. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE who will actually say that one branch is "gay" is an f-ing idiot. They don't have any concept at all about what the real world is about. When they start talking this crap, I simply walk away.
Yes, the Corps (note it's Corps, not Corp) does a good job. I won't ever take anything away from them. I know also that their Boot Camp is harder than any of the other branches. But in the end...we are all on the same damned side.
I served 7 years in the Army and 5 in the Navy, then ended up retiring from the National Guard. While on Guam I went into a bar to hang out. There were two Marines who were hassled by a few locals and ended up getting into a fight. I jumped in...not because they were Marines...but because they were MILITARY. I could have walked away...but didn't and got my nose broken for my trouble. Then again...if I had walked away, I wouldn't have made two good friends and had a story to tell.

Indeed like all the other posters said, the infamous rivalry between the two branches will forever exist.
There is no right or wrong in joining any of the branches. Your buddies talking about the Army being gay and Marines superior In my opinion is crap, since they're not marines yet they haven't earned the right to talk about any of the other 4 branches (5 Total).
My easiest explanation for the two forces are Marines are an Assault force and Army a Sustaining Force. That doesn't mean each branch can't do what the others do. My best friends went Marines, I went Army and we talk crap every day I see them since we got out. In the end, like previously mentioned, we don't give a damn what branch someone served in, One Team One Fight

So ... you are going to listen to a bunch of wannabes who are still in high school and have yet to raise their right hand, swear an oath, pick up a rifle and go off to the sound of the guns?
Here are a few statistics that you can throw back at them: during WWII, there were more Army Infantryman fighting in the Pacific alone than there were Marines (of all jobs) in the Corps worldwide - kinda of shows who did the most fighting. Of the three Amphibious Corps HQs in the Pacific, two of them were commanded by Army Generals. In the First World War, the two Marine Regiments fighting in France were formed as a Brigade under the Army's 2d Infantry Division. During Desert Storm and OIF, Marine Divisions were augmented by Army tank brigades as the Marine units were to light to fight effectively on the modern mechanized battlefield.
Let your dumba** friends run off at the mouth. They count not.
EDIT: @ Jaylen - you might want to relook two things: 1 - learn how to spell "marin core" correctly; 2 - go do some research on who exactly is first in and last out on a regular basis, because it wasn't so in Vietnam, or Afghanistan, or Iraq (both times), or Panama, or Grenada, or the DOminican Republic, and on and on ....

The Army isn't gay, I can assure you that there are plenty of people who work just as hard.
The Marine Corps is a lot more selective and holds everybody to a higher standard then the Army (In my opinion). Everytime I PT on Saturday the Gunny tells us to look around. we're the only people in the station, we take this **** seriously, we don't accept felons, we don't cut corners here.
The other posters are right too... Marine Corps is the smallest branch with a smaller budget. We live off of handy me downs.

in all honesty the marin core is the most versatile branch. they are indeed the first to go in and last to go out. the army is the one who comes in in holds down certain locations that the marines have takin over. the marin core is by far the toughest group but if you really want to impress them try out for a special force in the army like the green beret or army ranger. that will out beat anything they can accomplish as a marin. unless they go to marin recon. although there are certain unties in the army that work with the marins.

If you guys are going infantry, you can tell them truthfully that the Marines aren't actually the "first to fight". The Army was in A-Stan months before the Marines after 9/11
Other than that, my points have been made.

It's not like call of duty kid what your talking about is serious sh!t.Can you handle your best friend dying in your arms and then picking up pieces of him and putting him into a garbage bag?I highly doubt it.

The Army is not gay by any means. Tell them to look up Army Ranger school. See how gay the Army is. Yes, the Marines are a great branch, but they are very cocky. I don't mean it in a bad way, it is just how they are bred. I was at a NFL game this year, and I was sitting close to an Army ranger. A guy started talking smack to him. The Army ranger got up and whooped him and his friends A$$. Good luck !
