Can i take pain killers before going to the dentist?

I gotta dentist appointment coming up, and I know they're gonna use a needle on the end of the drill-bit to clean out the gums near the teeth which is a very painful procedure. What if I take 2x Co-codamol tablets (500mg paracetamol and 30mg codeine phosphate each) will that dampen the pain ? they have already told me they will not give any anesthetic for this procedure.

So, if i take the pain killers will i feel the pain ? (i dont mind if its just a bit, but using the needle on the gums hurts like hell)

A general pain reliever will help, but it won't be any where near as good as a local anaesthetic. Try and talk to your dentist before you go for the procedure, as you probably know you'll need to take the co-codamol 30\500 about twenty minutes to half an hour before it takes affect.

If you are going to this you must then make sure that you tell the Dentist that you have taken prescription strength painkillers and at what time before he starts so that he is aware.

Why don't you ask your dentist?
