What does ABRAXAS really mean?

Does Abraxas represent a variation of the sun god or something else?

    Abraxas was the name of a Gnostic deity worshiped during the time of Basilides. Abraxas was the great archon (or deity) beyond the seven spheres of the known planets.

    Abraxas may, with some room for error, be identified with the "divine mind" of Socrates, the primum mobile which the universe emulates in its circular motions.
