Yes, you need to have a passport or passport card.

Passport cards are only good for crossing the border into Canada or Mexico. If you fly you need a passport. If you go to some other country you need a passport. So which one you get for this trip will depend on what your future travel plans are.

Time is very short. You need to apply Today! You need to pay the extra fee to get your application rushed.

You're crossing a border, so you need a passport. Either one will work for a land crossing, though the passport book is also good for when you're flying, so it's more flexible. It can take 4-6 weeks from what I've heard to get a US passport, so apply right away.

You can get a passport which is the most flexible a passport card is a little cheaper but is only good for land crossings you cannot fly with it. You can also get an ENHANCED drivers license.

You should be able to get any of these documents in time to cross the border.
