if 0.5206 g of iron is reacted, how many moles of copper should be produced?
Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) -------> FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
i dont understand how to set it up or anything

Fe(s) + CuSO4(aq) ---> FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)
0.5206g ......................... ...................??? mol
1. "moles" are a way of measuring the amount of substance, just like "dozens" are a way of measuring the number of eggs.
2. Likewise, if we had a large number of eggs, we could "count" them if we knew their mass and the mass of an average egg. 1 egg = 50 grams. 1 dozen eggs equals 600 grams. if we had 1000 grams of eggs we would have1.67 dozen or 20 eggs.
3. 1 mole of copper atoms has a mass of 63.5 grams. 1000 grams of copper is 15.7 moles of copper or about 9.5x10^24 copper atoms
4. That's because 1 mole of atoms (or anything) is 6.022x10^23 atoms... or molecules... etc. And 1 mole has a mass equal to the molar mass of the atom or molecule.
To solve the problem....
1. Convert 0.5206 grams of iron to moles using a conversion factor
0.5206 g Fe x (1 mol Fe / 55.8g Fe) = 0.00933 mol Fe
2. The balanced chemical equation tells us about moles. The coefficients give us the mole ratio just as they give the ratio between atoms and molecules. The equation says that 1 mole of Fe will produce 1 mole of Cu.
3. Therefore, 0.00933 moles of copper are produced.
