Why does my computer keep updating?

I understand that the question itself sounds dumb, I know that computers need to update regularly to keep at peak performance, but what I'm having a problem with is that my computer seems to want to update not just one thing, but several at the same time EVERY day. The main problems are my anti-virus, steam, mozilla, adobe (obviously there might not be something wrong with that one). They always seem to want to update every day. And not just that but if I were to click on just one of them and allow it to update, they ALL start updating at the SAME time. I think it's hurting my already poor internet connection to where I can't do anything cause there are things updating in the background whether I know about it or not.

Update:

People listen, I'm not having problems with the actual Windows Updater nor do i not understand why or what an update is >.< I understand that they are trying to update what I'm trying to say is why in teh hell are they all friggen updating on at the same times on the same god damned days? I understand why they would be updating, but I want to know if it is an issue (besides being incredibly annoying) that they are all doing their thing at the same time! Say my anti-virus wants to update, and I let it, 10 seconds later I get a message from steam while the anti-virus is updating that steam needs to update too, then more and more programs start telling me they need an update all while everything else hasn't even finished updating.

See these apps are all from different vendors and when you click on one , all are not supposed to update . They are independent . It wont update together as they are not at all related to each other but they may update together when they detect a net connection .

    Anywys ,

    1. Anti-virus : Its used to recognise viruses . How does it do it ? It has something called as definition . It if any file matches this definitition , then it is caught as a virus . There are millions of virus so millions of definitions. When new virus comes , ur anti-virus wont have its definition . How does it get it ? By updating the defintions. SO this update is crucial and should not be disabled , generally . Unless you're sure you wont get viruses .

    2. Steam : Gamers find new ways to hack everyday . So this has to be fixed by updates. This isnt necessary but since most of the time steam wont let you login without updating , you have no choice .

    3. Adobe : Not at all necessary to update . On the task bar where it shows the time , you may see an arrow. Click on it and you'll see icons . see an red A symbol which tells adobe. Right click exit it each time pc starts

    4. Mozilla wont update daily . If it does , its a bug . Remove mozila . It should update once a while .

most other updates are not necessary and should be disabled.

YOu can do this by going to the app , and then going to settings and finidn update option and disabling it .

Finally disable your windows updates (updating the windows itself which is heavy on net ) by going to start - control panel - windows updates - chance settings (top left ) - never check for updates - ok .

If you're on windows, you can stop this by going into your control panel and turning off windows update, or you can set it to only update at certain times of the day/week.

It may be that your computer is trying to check for new updates every day, not necessarily doing an actual update,
