Building a trailer from a "retired"1991 F-150?

I removed the rear axle, brakes and brake support shields.

There are no visible signs alside,I think that there an internal mechanism that prevents the shaft from sliding out of the axle, anybody knows for sure?

That axle uses c-clips inside the diff. Take off the back cover.

why are you pulling the axle down, just notch the frame, pull it in, weld it, add a hitch and wire the plug, done.

You'd better figure what keeps the wheels from falling off before you start removing things.
