Need an italian greyhound sire in Southwest Florida?

I have a beautiful, big IG girl who will be coming into heat soon. I was wondering if anyone near Fort Myers would be willing to breed their IG to her for around $200. She does not have papers, but she is beautiful and lovely in every way. Her puppies are all spoken for unless you want a puppy instead of money in which you can pick the first male or second female.

"Does not have papers". That's where you lost me. Without papers, you can't even prove that she is purebred, and you have no record of her ancestry. Even if SHE is beautiful, I would sure like to know if both of her parents had structural faults, temperamental instabilities, or health issues before she passes those genes on to my sire's puppies.

No one with a decent (healthy, correct, titled, health-tested) stud will touch an unregistered bytch. They don't want their name dragged through the mud if/when she passes on major problems to pups that bear his lineage and name.

There are about 40 IG's and their mixes with the same credentials as any pups you produce in shelters near you right now: http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?animal_type=Do... if you insist on breeding dogs of equal or lesser quality, then I need you to pick out one of these dogs for every puppy you produce and kill them. Either your pups will end up in shelters and need the space, or every home asking for a pup could be equally well filled with one of these dogs since yours have NO proof they are purebred, NO titles on the dam, NO health tests on the dam, and NO temperament tests on the dam. The pups you produce will be a crap shoot, just like these dogs. So please pick out 6-12 of them and call up the rescues offering to be the one to hold them when they are put down. Because that is what your litter of pups will cause to happen to these dogs or ones just like them.

Seriously? You have been in education for 35 years? I guess education is not all its cracked up to be!

I have so many issues with this question. First, if your girl is big, she is out of breed standard and is not a quality dog. Second, if you don't have any papers, she might not even be purebred.

Third, without a pedigree, you have no idea what kind of genetic issues she has, and any pups she has could be at risk for any of the major health issues in Iggies.

The only good place to find a sire is when they all approach you after your girl wins best in show.

Yes, Italian Greyhounds are a real sighthound, even though in lots of nations (including Canada and the us) they are proven within the Toy staff. There's some discord amongst breeders as many feel they don't belong within the Toy staff (in view that most dogs in the Toy workforce had been bred down to make them smaller, and despite what some people feel, they weren't bred down from the Greyhound however have been a breed onto themselves for hundreds and hundreds of years). I have had Italian Greyhounds get together with smaller animals if raised with them, but alternatively, ALL of mine will hunt and kill prey animals as well. I have had to put off the carcasses of birds, gophers, mice, and the occassional rabbit from my sofa. Like every sighthound, they can not be let off leash in an unfenced subject as they will spot a target and chase it.

You don't even know if she's purebred and without papers, you can't prove it. So, what type of IG male do you think you will attract? One of lesser quality than yours. No one with a good IG stud is going anywhere near your pet-quality, "possibly" purebred female. You'll just be producing more shelter fodder.

All the pups are spoken for? Yeah, tell me that when she produces a bunch of poorly bred, maybe full blooded IG's

Certainly you've had all health and genetic testing done? I'm surprised that someone hasn't approached you at the breed ring, while you were showing her to her breed championship, or a member from the breed club that you belong to.

OOPS! Just re-read your question, and see that she's NOT REGISTERED. No one with a decent male is going to breed to your backyard bred junk. Get her spayed, and quit adding to the over population of dogs. Why do you want to join the ranks of scumbag backyard breeders?

Source(s): EDIT: Scary that you are an educator. WOW! @SHAINA: I cannot believe that a professional educator/top contributor has asked this.

Just because your dog is "beautiful & lovely in every way",doesn't mean she's breeding quality,or that she should be bred.Papers mean NOTHING.You need to title your dog,do genetic health testing, make sure she's sound, conforms to the breed standard,is over two years of age.

    She's not even Registred, Tested,Titled.

Don't breed your dog & produce unwanted puppies, there's NO need to do so.

LMAO,A TC in special education asked this,it comes to show how many people are ignorant in the world of dog breeding.

How do you know the pups are spoken for? You don't know how many she's having

If she doesn't have papers there is no proof she is purebred and that means she isn't breeding quality

    Fix your pet quality dog
