Satellite Icon on my HTC desire?

At the top of my phone is a satellite icon and it hasn't been there until today.

Does anyone know what it is and how to get it off?

    Satelite icon is of gps it means your gps is activate go to setting and off the gps.

    I'm having the same problem it's not GPS. GPS icon is a compass......what is this satellite icon . My GPS is completely off
