There may well be some discharge before she goes into labour. But your best guide about when is to count from the first day she was mated (dogs will be pregnant for 62/63 days), bearing in mind conception may not have taken place on that day. She may go over by a couple of days but if she goes for longer, then I'd get her to a vet. Inertia can happen, especially with small litters who can just sit there, growing, to the point she may need a C.Section.

Bitches tend to whelp in the small hours - so plan on sleeping in the same room you have set up her whelping box in so you can keep an eye on her. And if she needs to go outside during the night, keep her on a lead. It's not unknown for a b itch to wander off and find another place to deliver her puppies - or drop one out there to be found dead next morning.

Once she is having strong contractions, don't leave her struggling for much longer than 1 hours without seeing a puppy delivered - every delivery. It's far better to get her help before she becomes exhausted, especially if she is going to need a C.Section.

    Good luck!

Add - Unless your b itch is struggling, as above, has a nasty offensive discharge or is otherwise in distress, why on earth would you need to be calling your vet!! There are experienced people (many not!) to answer your question on here. By all means call the vet's office once she does go into labour, to let them know she's started so if you do need them, they can make arrangements to be there for you. Otherwise I've read nothing in your question to suggest you need to rush her to a vet - yet!

She probably is but you need to take her temperature, if you have been taking her temperature every day like you're support to you will know if she's going into labour by a change in that (usually higher than normal).

Watch her behaviour, is she being more clingy and lovey to her most treasured family member? If so then yes.

Is she nesting? Is she looking for places round the house and areas to make a nest? This is a very good sign

Good luck and have fun with the puppies, I know I did!

You should know this information by now though but don't worry at least you know now!xx good luck xo

What is her temp? Is she having visible contractions? How many days since she mated? What did the vet say her due date is? Without knowing any of those things it's impossible to guess if she is in labor or not. The loss of the mucus plug is not an indicator that labor is imminent.

Well then, if you are in communication with your vet you shouldn't need the guidance of random and perhaps inexperience people over the internet.

Go call the vet and let them know they should be ready to hear from you soon.

I have my three dogs crate trained, and I didn't have any real issues with it. Learn here http://onlinedogtraining.enle.info/?br00

I didn't get them as very young puppies, and that makes a difference. young puppies are like young babies. They don't cry to manipulate, they cry to have their needs fulfilled. They need to potty every 2 to 3 hours at this young age, and crating them for long periods of time causes them physical discomfort. They don't like to potty where they sleep, so it creates the need for the dog to get out of the crate, or soil it, which will make him more reluctant to use it.

Make the crate a place where good things happen. My dogs get a small treat every time I crate them before I leave. They also get fed in their crates (I feed a raw diet, so it's less messy if they eat in their crates). They dive into their crates in anticipation of food. I also leave the crate doors open all the time so they can sleep in their even when I'm home if they choose. If you have a smaller sized crate, keep it close to your computer, or other busy areas of the house so the dog has an option to go there and rest when you are home. toys such as Kong's are great for the crate because you can stuff them and give the dog something to occupy him. I used to stuff mine with a mixture of peanut butter and frozen mixed veggies, then I'd freeze it before giving it to the dog. You could very easily do this when you are sitting at the computer, give him the Kong in the crate. Shut the door and let him enjoy it while you surf the web. (he may have to potty after he finishes it, so make sure you take him outside when he's done). I'd also remove the kong and take him out of the crate before he asks to come out.

If you keep it positive, don't make a fuss when you come home, or when you leave, and have patience, the crate can be a wonderful tool!
